Overview

Have you a solid foundation in understanding and conducting risk assessments in your volunteer management role? Whether you are supervising volunteers, coordinating activities, or simply ensuring a safe environment, this training will equip you with practical skills to identify, evaluate, and manage risks effectively.

We will start by exploring the legal reasons for health and safety, helping you understand why risk assessments are not just best practice; they are a legal requirement. From there, we will guide you step by step through the risk assessment process, including identifying potential hazards, determining who might be at risk and how, assessing risk levels, and evaluating risks to decide which controls are necessary. You will also learn how to find the right balance between safety and practicality, and ultimately how to produce a clear, actionable risk assessment that protects your individuals and your organisation.

By the end of this session, you will be able to confidently create risk assessments that reduce accidents, enhance safety, and support a positive experience.

For volunteer managers, supervisors and activity leaders, these skills are invaluable: they help you make informed decisions, demonstrate responsibility, and foster a safe, well-organised environment where individuals can thrive.

This training is practical, interactive, ensuring that you leave with knowledge and tools you can apply immediately.

The learning takes approximately 1 – 1.5 hours to complete.  The course is available for individuals to attend or can be run as a workshop for up to 10 delegates.
